- Papua New Guinea (PNG) is an island country in Asia Pacific, just north of Australia. PNG is the eastern part of the island of New Guinea while a portion of Indonesia is on the western half of the island.
- PNG is one of the most diverse countries in the world with more than 1000 cultural groups and more than 800 languages spoken.
- It is currently estimated that there are 100,000 people per 5 physicians in the country of PNG (vs 100,000 people per 242 physicians in the U.S.), so there is an immense need for medical professionals.
- Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, where we will be working, was founded in 1967 and serves as the principle hospital to the people of the Jiwaka province in the western highlands of PNG.
